Summer Student opportunities

Founded in 1955, the Frascati National Laboratories (LNF) are the oldest and largest laboratories of INFN, the Italian agency devoted to fundamental research in nuclear and subnuclear physics. The LNF cover an area of 140000 m2 and are located about 20 km from the centre of Rome. They can be easily reached by car, by plane (two international airports), by bus and by train.

Research activities in the LNF are pursued in all major INFN areas of interest: Particle Physics, Astroparticle Physics, Nuclear Physics, Theoretical Physics and Detector Physics. Several groups are participating in experimental programs in collaboration with the major institutions and laboratories all over the world.

The Frascati Laboratories offer students of scientific disciplines the opportunity to spend a two-month studying period joining one of the available projects, in the framework of the Summer Student Programs listed below.

SUMMER STUDENT PROGRAMS

DOE-INFN Summer Exchange Program

The DOE-INFN Summer Exchange Program is financed by the US Department of Energy (DoE) and the National Institute for Nuclear Physics – Italy (INFN).

It is dedicated to the exchange of US and Italian Students.

Candidates must be enrolled as students at a US University and must have begun, at the time of application, at least the third year of a US University curriculum in physics, engineering or computing science. They can join a team at the LNF, or other INFN units, for 2 months between June 1st and October 31st, 2023. Opportunities include participation in physics analysis, activities of running experiments as well as involvement in detector developments.

For further details and application visit the DOE-INFN Summer Exchange Program homepage

LNF Summer Student Program

The LNF Summer Student Program provides 5 two-month fellowships for university students of scientific and technological disciplines. This program offers Italian or foreign students, under-graduate or graduated since less than a year, the possibility to do a research experience within one of the groups active in our laboratories.

The call to submit applications is issued every year in spring. The students are selected according to their curriculum by an internal selection panel. The fruition period for these fellowships is June-October.
